When a rebel becomes a master

  • • Filippo is part of the fourth generation of a family of jewellery makers
  • • He makes unique, handcrafted, Milanese creations
  • • His work includes an irreverent collection of handcrafted cufflinks

Sharp, creative and also a bit of a rebel in his early days, Filippo Villa is still the artistic mind behind the Villa jewellery store and workshop in the heart of Milan, even though he’s now gradually handing over the family business to the fifth generation of the family: his nieces Alice and Francesca. The first Italian to graduate from the Gemological Institute of America in 1978, he took over the workshop from his father and developed the business with his organised and precise brother Marco, attracting a loyal clientele in Milan and abroad. His jewellery is the result of his imaginative creativity and technical skills but also of his incomparable knowledge of the evolution of his craft, and of his love for the great jewellery makers of all time.

Gothic earrings with sapphires, diamonds and tsavorites

These earrings belong to the Gothic collection, inspired by the tall spires of the Duomo of Milan. Emerald cut sapphires are set in a frame covered with tsavorites and diamonds. The white gold structure is reduced to a minimum in terms of thickness, leaving the gemstones centre stage and ensuring a certain delicacy.

Micromosaic ring with sugar loaf emerald and diamonds pavé

This pavé setting is made up of many gemstones, which are set as closely together as possible. The gems are separated and held in place by little beads pulled from the setting metal. The beads virtually disappear into the background and the result is what looks like a continuous surface of gemstones.
