A theatrical approach

  • • Katerina's colourful jewellery designs reflect her personality
  • • She believes in the demand for unique handmade jewellery
  • • Her parents taught her the craft of jewellery making

Katerina Makriyianni grew up in a family where art was part of the daily routine. After studying theatre at the University of Patras and taking engraving and drawing classes in Florence, at Le Arti Orafe Jewellery school, Makriyianni returned to Chania, her hometown. Their family workshop was the place where she started practicing her craft, with the guidance of her parents. Through her work, she combines her love for theatre and the creative freedom it provides with her passion for crafting jewellery. “I love working in a workshop and especially with teams. Teamwork and creativity are a source of strength for me. That is why pursuing this career was the perfect combination,” Makriyianni says.

Rose Earrings

This pair of rose shaped earrings are one of Katerina Makriyianni's first attempts at using fabric in her designs. She especially enjoys their malleability and the shapes that can be created as well as their magic colours. This design is a different type of rose, one that Katerina imagined, created with metal and fabric.

Rhombus-shaped earrings

This design resulted from a collaboration with the cloth brand, Ancient Kallos. They draw their inspiration from traditional Greek embroidery. The rhombus shape of this earring features prominently in Greek embroidery and Katerina Makriyianni combined it with a touch of intense colour and bold size.

Silky Flare earrings

Yellow gold is wrapped around the fabric of these earrings, helping the fabric stand out and holding the fibres in place at the same time. From the gold, a flare of silky threads burst out.
