How did you start working in this field?
I have always been in love with church art, especially from medieval times. However, becoming a stained glass artist was never my plan. I worked as a freelance artist as well as a tattoo artist for many years. Now I can't imagine doing anything else.
Why did you choose stained glass?
What I love most about my profession is that it is both art and craft. I appreciate contemporary and classical art, and here I get to do both. I can make a traditional church window, or I can do an abstract and conceptual piece to be used in modern architecture.

Are there still many stained glass artisans?
No, there are few people left doing it, so I feel like I am contributing to the survival of this craft, which makes it even more meaningful to me. I hope one day I can teach someone else. We have to keep the flame burning!
How is stained glass linked to Lithuania?
It is connected to the time when Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union. The stained glass business was booming during those years, although most of the commissions came from the state, which meant the artist wouldn't always have artistic freedom, for political reasons.
